Information About Laser Tattoo Removal
The Science
Sci-fi and Goldfinger
Laser Technology has vastly improved in the last several years. Unlike the lasers we see threatening James Bond, our laser technology is the most advanced on the market. Using advanced picosecond technology to emit ultra-short pulses allowing us to deliver quicker treatments, with less pain, and shorter recovery times.
How It Works
What exactly happens?
When tattoos are created, ink is forced under the layers of skin to the middle layer (Dermis). Your body is constantly working to remove this ink but the ink particles are way too big. Lasers are used to reach the middle layer of skin and break up the larger remaining ink particles into tiny itty bitty little pieces. We then rely on your body’s immune system to help flush away those particles.
How Will It Feel
Ouch Charlie! That Hurts!
Tattoo removal isn’t completely painless. For some – they say it hurts less than getting the actual tattoo, while others say it hurts the same. Others say it feels like an elastic band snapping on the skin. With our latest Picoway laser technology, it’s method is known to cause less pain, and treatments are faster (so less time getting zapped!). After treatment, the area will simply feel like you got a sunburn.
Preparation
Leading up to your first appointment.
•Stay out of the sun. Avoid activities in the sun, tanning beds, and sunless tanner. All of these can effect the laser’s effectiveness on the skin and discomfort.
•Shave the treatment area if there is a lot of excess hair.
•Wear loose or comfortable clothing. The treatment area will feel like a sunburn after, so avoid tight clothing that can rub up against the treated area.
Multiple Visits
How Long We Talkin’ Doc?
Laser is the #1 and only permanent solution to tattoo removal by targeting ink particles. There are many factors that can impact the number of treatments needed; such as tattoo’s size, color, age, and aftercare. Most tattoos visibly fade within 3-5 treatments. Some removals may can take 8-12 sessions over the duration of 18 months.
Potential Risks
It’s rare but could happen.
The skin is our largest organ on the body and everyone’s results can be different as well as our body’s response to treatments. The potential consequences of laser tattoo removal are:
•Permanent darkening or lightening of skin around or at the treatment area.
•Ink left behind that does not respond to treatments creating a “ghost” tattoo.
•Blistering/scabbing
•Infection

After Care Information
Keep Clean and Dry
The treated area may be wrapped to protect it from clothing. After 24 hrs you may gently pat the area dry after showering or bathing.
Healthy Intakes
Drink plenty of water. This will help the body flush the ink particles. Try to limit alcohol and smoking, this just slows down the healing process.
Avoid Heat
Precautions to avoid heat, such as hot water when bathing, should be taken for the first 48 hrs!
Do not touch
Blisters and scabs are a normal part of the healing process. No scratching or picking! This can cause scarring.
Limit Sun Exposure
Avoiding activities in the sun is recommended. If venturing outdoors, we suggest using SPF50+ and keeping the area covered.
Avoid Exercise or Rigorous Activities
For the first day or so, avoid strenuous exercise and activities. Not only will it cause your skin to heat up and sweat, it can increase blood flow to the treatment area cause swelling.
Watch for infection
Contact your doctor if you notice signs of infection, such as severe redness, pus, swelling, or tenderness.
